"Deeper Than Dirt" #6 on the Baltimore City Paper's top records of 2010.
6 Dirt Platoon Deeper Than Dirt (Brake Fast)
Brothers Raf the Almighty and Snook Da Crook formed Dirt Platoon back in the 1990s, so if their grimy sound evokes a time when Wu Tang and Boot Camp Clik ruled hip-hop, don’t think of it as retro but simply as what they’ve always done. The duo’s second album this year and first with Brake Fast Records is the pinnacle of Dirt Platoon’s long career, summing up both the group’s history and its city’s history with tracks like “Pennsylvania Ave” while Brake Fast producer Tom Delay lays down the rawest, nastiest beats of his life. Senate Bill S 510 Food Safety Modernization Act vote imminent: Would outlaw gardening and saving seeds
(NaturalNews) Senate Bill 510, the Food Safety Modernization Act, has been called "the most dangerous bill in the history of the United States of America." It would grant the U.S. government new authority over the public's right to grow, trade and transport any foods. This would give Big brother the power to regulate the tomato plants in your backyard. It would grant them the power to arrest and imprison people selling cucumbers at farmer's markets. It would criminalize the transporting of organic produce if you don't comply with the authoritarian rules of the federal government. Get your Farmvilles going cuz that's the only way you'll be able to grow food if this bill passes!

Dirt Platoon - Deeper Than Dirt
Dirt Platoon brings the raw, gritty sound of Baltimore's inner city streets to life on "Deeper Than Dirt" (released by Brake Fast Records). The album begins with an ode to the street the two brothers grew up on, "Pennsylvania Ave.", which draws a stamp of approval from street legend and "American Gangster" Melvin Williams, who makes a cameo in the video. The album continues with aggressive, in-your-face lyrics, as Dirt Platoon stake their claim in hip-hop and prove that "these other rappers is garbage, the match-ups be uneven". These multi-dimensional emcees also show that they aren't all brute on tracks like "Raven" and "Long Time No C" as they discuss interactions and relationships with the opposite sex. Whether it's a braggadocious rap, an introspective look into the gutter, or a song for the ladies, Dirt Platoon's superb lyrical ability and robust metaphors prove to be a testament to songwriting.
"Deeper Than Dirt" carries a cohesive, addictive sound that rings true with hip-hop purists and true schoolers. Tom Delay puts his masterful touch on a number of beats including "1st Hand" and "Almighty", bringing a lively, unique feel to the album. Philly producer Fel Sweentenberg also makes his mark on the project, providing bass heavy bangers for songs like "Rapid Fire" and "E.L.A.I.N.E.".
The entire record paints a picture how hip-hop was, and how it should be, as the producers take sample chops to another level and the emcees use modern techniques of emceeing to talk about their lives and to just plain spit. With features only from L.E.G.A.C.Y. of the Justice League, Brake Fast emcee Mic Brown and vocalist Kate Nudo, Dirt Platoon show their lyrical prowess in 12 tracks of the type of music that many hip-hop artists aspire to make. "Deeper Than Dirt" is that unfiltered, uncut, hip-hip from the heart.

Man Faces Up To 16 Years In Prison For Videotaping A Traffic Stop
Anthony Graber, a Maryland Air National Guard staff sergeant, faces up to 16 years in prison. His crime? He videotaped his March encounter with a state trooper who pulled him over for speeding on a motorcycle.

Although, the rider is one these dickheads doing 130ph, I still have to side for civil liberties and against the New World Order police state. Why is it that everywhere we go we are videotaped, tracked, and monitored, but when we as civilians try to watch the watchmen, it is a crime? Notice how the cop is not wearing a uniform and has no markings on his car to show it is a police vehicle. What the fuck happened to this country?

I met this cat about 8 months through my man Tony Moon and have been impressed with his musical gusto, knowledge of the game and generosity since I met him. He is a producer, engineer and an emcee (like me!) who has worked with a myriad of musicians from around the globe.
Can you speak on the origin of your name, 'Van Ark'.
My Name Van Ark Comes From Van Gogh the Artist and Ark comes from the Ark Noah was Building so the name came from that. What got you involved in the hip-hop culture and around what time?
Who are some of your musical influences?
Some of my musical influences range from Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Stereolab, Slum Village, Prince, Chick Corea,Wu-tang Clan, Sun Ra, John Cage, J-Dilla, Ahmad Jamal, it's so many i cant even name but thats some of those that have influenced me
Who are some of your non-musical influences?
Who are some of your non-musical influences?
I would say some of my musical influences are good people that try to bring positive energy in the world by their works and the goal of trying to unite all with a great purpose...
What projects you working on right now?
I am working on another follow up Van Ark Album to Chemical Beats also another Bionic Megaz Project that is a side experimental band i do music with so that is in the works, and I have more production and collabs coming up soon as well.
Out of all the beats you ever made, which one is your favorite? And provide a link to it.
Hmmm.. thats a hard one i would say the song Spring i produced featuring Shuanise from my Live at the Cafe E.P. i really like that one anda another Song that is up there with that i really like is a track I produced is Little things featuring Linnea but is so many its hard to choose..You can check out both song on my Bandcamp website.
If a a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it still make a sound?
If a a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it still make a sound?
I Dont think it makes a sound unless you are there to hear it but maybe someone walking by the forest may hear something..
What do you see being the most important issue facing the human race during these time?
The important issue that i think human race is faced having unity and focus on how to treat each otherand understand the importance of that and how if we all came into that collective thought i think all in the human race will be a blessing to each other lives
What do you do to relax?
I usually go dig for Records or look a Movies at home from time to time so really that is relaxing to me.
